Buffs Finish Fourth At Silverado Showdown

NAPA, Calif. – University of Colorado junior Esther Lee shot a 4-under par, 68 here in the final round of the Silverado Showdown on Tuesday, leading the Buffaloes to a fourth place finish.

The Buffaloes recorded a 292 or 4-over par in the finale, matching Pepperdine and Ohio State for the best team score of the day, and posted a combined 19-over par, 883 overall score for the event. Colorado was second among the 18-team field in total pars—notching 179 on the 6,206-yard, par 72 Silverado Resort North Course.

Stanford, who led wire-to-wire, finished at 1-over par (865) to win the event by 13 strokes over second-place finisher Oregon. The Ducks, tournament co-hosts with CU, shot 878 as a team. Pepperdine earned the third place spot with an 880 or 16-over par performance, three strokes ahead of the Buffs in fourth while Ohio State rounded out the top five at 21-over par (885).

Lee finished the tournament in third place, posting a 73-72-68—213 or 3-under par final scorecard. Her third round was comprised of 12 pars and five birdies against just one bogey, which came on her second hole of the day. Four holes later she drained her first of five birdies to move back to even-par and by her eighth hole she was in the red and remained under-par for the rest of the afternoon. Lee now has two rounds in the 60s this season and seven for her career, tying her with Emily Talley (2009-12) for the most all-time in program history.

Junior Natalie Vivaldi put together her best 56-hole performance of her career as she finished with a 219 or 3-over par and tied for 10th place, earning her first top 10 finish. Vivaldi was two holes shy of posting a third consecutive even-par round, but ran into some trouble with a bogey and double-bogey to close the day. Over the three days, she tallied 39 pars, third most among the 93-player field and seven birdies against six bogeys and two doubles.

Senior Alexis Keating recorded her lowest round of the tournament on Tuesday, shooting even-par and wrapped up the tournament at 8-over par, 224. It was a rocky start for Keating as she was 4-over par after five holes, but calmed down to shoot 4-under the rest of the way with nine pars and four birdies. Keating finished tied for 31st overall.

Sophomore Brittany Fan shot 6-over par in the last round and concluded the event at 12-over par (71-79-78—228). She carded a 3-over on both the front and back nine and finished strong, paring five of her final six holes. She was second in the field with 40 pars and tied for 47th place in the standings.

Freshman Gillian Vance notched her second round of 77 to finish at 18-over par (77-80-77—234) and tied for 73rd place. Her round on Tuesday included 11 pars and two birdies against four bogeys and a triple.

Senior Allie Zech also shot 77 on the last day to close out her individual performance with a 232 or 16-over par scorecard. She had been 6-over par through 15 holes, but finished with birdie-par-par over the remaining three holes to drop back to 5-over. Zech tied for 63rd place.

The top five individuals were separated by a combined five strokes. Oregon's Cathleen Santoso moved up one place to earn medalist honors, completing the event at 5-under par Lauren Kim of Stanford took second at 4-under, one stroke ahead of Lee in third place. Stanford's Casey Danielson finished fourth at 2-under and Kassidy Teare of Long Beach State was fifth at even-par.

The Buffaloes leave California and will head straight to Arizona as they are set to compete in the Arizona State Invitational this weekend—April 8-10. Colorado then has a week off to prepare for the Pac-12 Championships, slated for April 18-20 in Pleasanton, Calif.
