MacIntyre, Others To Headline Colorado Coaches For Charity Event

May 10, 2016 | Football

DENVER – University of Colorado Football Coach Mike MacIntyre will once again join the coaches from around the state in the name of charity, as the ninth annual Colorado Coaches for Charity will be held on Wednesday, May 11 at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.

All of the head football coaches from the Colorado universities will share the stage with Coach Mac: Mike Bobo (Colorado State), Troy Calhoun (Air Force Academy), Earnest Collins, Jr. (Northern Colorado) and John Wristen (CSU-Pueblo). Each will bring their supporters to Denver to help raise money for their respective charities. Money is also raised during the evening to help sponsor single-parent children attend Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) summer camps.  In addition, Denver Bronco head coach Gary Kubiak will also be appearing as will former Buff and recently retired Bronco, Tyler Polumbus.

Additionally, each coach honors his annual recipient of Jerry D. McMorris Community MVP Award. Coach Mac's 2016 Award honoree is Dr. Eric McCarty, the head team physician for both the University of Colorado athletic program.  McCarty's Hall of Fame College coach, Bill McCartney, will also be in attendance.

The event is sponsored annually by the Fisher DeBerry Foundation, which is led by Hall of Fame and legendary former Air Force Falcons Head Football Coach Fisher DeBerry. The Foundation supports children of single-parent families.

“This is a fun and meaningful night for us every year,” said Fisher DeBerry. “The state of Colorado is blessed to have wonderful football coaches with big hearts. These coaches don't just spend time on the football field or watching game film; they truly care about using their positions to give back to their respective communities.”

Proceeds raised from the event are split between the coaches' charities. Coach Mac has once again chosen the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation (FOJ) as his beneficiary. FOJ pairs up children and their families battling pediatric brain tumors with college sports teams. The Buffs “adopted” Josiah Speer of Longmont in 2013. Josiah has battled brain cancer since he was three years old.

Only a handful of individual tickets are still available as the evening is nearly sold out. The more tickets purchased by fans of each school, the more money that will go towards that particular coach's charity.
