BOULDER – University of Colorado golfer Esther Lee became the first two-time All-American in program history on Tuesday as she was named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Second Team for a second consecutive year.
“This is a well-deserved honor for Esther,” said Colorado head coach Anne Kelly. “She is a very solid, consistent player and continues to set a high standard for CU women's golf. I'm excited to see what she can accomplish during her upcoming senior year.”
The All-American honor for Lee makes it the third of her career. She was also named to the All-American Third Team by Golfweek as a sophomore.
Lee, a Los Alamitos, Calif. native completed her junior year as the 25th-ranked golfer in the nation. She led the Buffaloes during their 2015-16 campaign with a school record 72.53 stroke average, becoming only the second Buff in school history to post a sub-73 stroke average in one season. She also earned a team-best 11 top 20 finishes, which is tied for first all-time in a single season. Lee won her second career event at the East & West Match Play Challenge this past fall in Madison, Wisc., where the senior-to-be shot a school-record 64 in the second round of stroke play.
In 30 rounds played, all of which counted toward team scoring, Lee registered a team-high three rounds in the 60s and tallied 27 rounds in the 70s, second-most on the squad. In addition, Lee led the team with eight subpar rounds, played five at even-par, and made four eagles, a personal-best 89 birdies and 348 pars.
Lee helped guide Colorado to a program-record 12 top 10 finishes in 13 events this season and matched a program-best fifth place finish at the 2016 Pac-12 Championships. The Buffs recorded a 75.25 team stroke average, the second lowest in school history and also earned its third straight NCAA Regional invitation, where the Buffs finished seventh overall in Stanford, Calif.
