Pearson Earns Second Team All-American Honors

EUGENE, Ore. – Running his final race in a University of Colorado uniform, Morgan Pearson recorded a 14th place finish in the 5,000-meter run on Friday night at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Pearson finished the race in 13 minutes, 54.99 seconds to record his first outdoor track All-America honor (second team), his seventh total as a Buff. Pearson was a two-time cross country All-American and recorded four honors during his indoor track career.
The New Vernon, N.J. native started the race well, moving up to sixth after the first kilometer. Pearson made a move to fifth around the midway point and was there until about four laps remained when he started to drop back. He was not able to recover and finished 14th overall, improving from a 17th place performance at the 2015 championships.
"Morgan did not have a great night," head coach Mark Wetmore said. "He looked brilliant and was right with the leaders through two and a half miles, but then he struggled the last couple of laps. I'm not sure why he was tired tonight. He looked great at conference and was good at regionals. Maybe it was just too long of year. He's had a good career for us and we are going to miss him. We are sad to see him go."
The final day of the championships is Saturday and the Buffs will have three women in competition. Maddie Alm and Dani Jones will run in the 1,500, while Kaitlyn Benner will race the 5,000.
