CU GOLF: Paul Named PING All-West Region

CU junior Jeremy Paul has been named to the PING All-West Region Golf Team, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced Monday.
BOULDER — University of Colorado junior Jeremy Paul has been named to the PING All-West Region Golf Team, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced Monday.
Paul enjoyed a tremendous junior season in setting numerous records, most notably season marks for overall stroke average (70.66), rounds in the 60s (18) and subpar rounds (21); he bettered the average mark by nearly a stroke, shattering the 71.46 mark set by Kane Webber in 2003-04. His marks for the fall (70.65) and the spring (70.67) were school bests as well, as was a streak of seven straight rounds in the 60s. He is currently fourth in the Pac-12 in stroke average and 16th in the nation.
"This is a tremendous honor for Jeremy, and once again validates the fact that he is one of the top collegiate players in the country," CU head coach Roy Edwards said. "This is a great reward for all of his hard work and dedication."
He also set the school standard for the most consecutive rounds that counted toward the team score (54), and became the sixth Buff to lead the team in stroke average for three seasons, the first since Knut Ekjord did from 1995-97. He also joined Dale Douglass, Hale Irwin, Steve Jones and John Lindberg in doing so, and only Jones (1978-81) and Ekjord (1995-97, 1999) have done it four times.
Paul is the first Buffalo to earn the honor since 2009, when seniors Patrick Grady (now CU's assistant coach) and Derek Tolan were honored. He has a chance to set numerous CU career marks as a senior in the 2016-17 season, most notably career stroke average: he has a 71.75 mark for 110 rounds, a full stroke-plus ahead of Webber's record of 72.90. He also is staring down marks for top 10 and top 20 finishes (he has 16 and 21, respectively).
The All-American teams will be announced in the coming weeks.
