Vance Takes Second At CWGA Stroke Play Championship

DENVER – University of Colorado sophomore Gillian Vance finished second overall here Thursday in the Colorado Women's Golf Association Stroke Play Championship.
Vance, a Lakewood, Colo. native, shot a 72-73-77—222 or 6-over par in the 54-hole event, which was played at the par 72, Denver Country Club. In her final round of the tournament, the second-year Buffalo recorded 12 pars and 1 birdie against 4 bogeys and 1 double.
Vance finished second behind friendly rival Jennifer Kupcho, a Littleton, Colo. native and golfer at Wake Forest University. Kupcho, the defending champion, pulled away from the field as she won by 19 strokes at 13-under par. Earlier this summer, Vance and Kupcho teamed-up to win the 2016 CWGA Mashie title as they defeated their opponents 6&5.
In her first year for the black and gold, Vance competed in nine tournaments, including both the Pac-12 Championships and NCAA West Regional. She recorded a 76.46 stroke average and earned her best finish at regionals when she tied for 33rd place overall.
Redshirt junior Tori Glenn also played in the CWGA tournament and was one of 12 to qualify for the championship flight. After shooting an 82 and 75 in the first and second round, respectively, she unfortunately had to withdraw (ill) from the final round.
