Choi To Compete In World Amateur Team Championships This Week

RIVIERA MAYA, Mexico – Freshman Robyn Choi of the University of Colorado women's golf team is in Riviera Maya, Mexico this week as she is set to compete in the 2016 World Amateur Team Championships, Sept. 14-17.

Choi, a native of Gold Coast, Queensland, will represent Australia in the 27th Women's Championship and help her country defend its 2014 title. The tournament, hosted by the Mexican Golf Federation will be played over four days at the Mayakoba El Camaleon and Iberostar Playa Paraiso courses. The format consists of 72-holes of stroke-play. Each team, comprised of two or three golfers will complete each 18-hole round. The two golfers who post the lowest score of each round will determine the team score. Then the four-day total is the team's score for the championship.

A record 55 women's nations will compete to win the prestigious Espirito Santo Trophy. Choi, ranked fourth in the Australia Amateur Player Rankings, is one of three golfers selected to play for the squad.

The World Amateur Team Championship is a biennial international amateur competition conducted by the International Golf Federation, which comprises national governing bodies of golf in 141 countries. The competition is rotated among three geographic zones: Asia-Pacific, Americas and Europe-Africa. Japan hosted the 2014 event.
