Tompkins Named Pac-12 Goalkeeper Of The Week
September 27, 2016 | Soccer
SAN FRANCISCO - Colorado soccer player Jalen Tompkins was named Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week on Tuesday. It is the first player of the week award of her career and she is the first CU goalkeeper to earn a Pac-12 player of the week award since Annie Brunner in 2013.
Tompkins, a redshirt freshman from Phoenix, Ariz., made seven saves in a 1-0 win at Washington State on Friday. With the match still scoreless in the 86th minute, Tompkins made a spectacular diving save on a shot from inside the box to keep WSU off the board and allow for Taylor Kornieck's game-winning goal just three minutes later.
The win for CU was the 200th in school history and the first-ever win for the Buffs in Pullman, Wash.
For the season, Tompkins is second in the Pac-12 and 17th nationally in save percentage, stopping 88.4 percent of opponents' shots on goal. She also has a 0.60 goals-against average and now has three solo shutouts in eight starts.
The Buffaloes will play at Arizona at 8 p.m. MT on Thursday and at Arizona State at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
