Skiing Notebook: Buffs to Continue with Utah and MSU Invites

News, notes and a look ahead to the second weekends of the Utah and Montana State Invites for the Buffalo alpine and Nordic teams
BOULDER – The University of Colorado ski program is set to continue with its first two meets of the season, the Utah Invitational and the Montana State Invitation, beginning on Thursday.
Coming out of last weekend's action, CU holds a lead in both meets. The Buffs scored 334 points to hold a 26-point lead over second-place Denver at the MSU invite after the running of the alpine events and in the Utah Invitational, Colorado holds an 8.5 lead over DU after the completion of the Nordic events.
Both the alpine and Nordic teams now flip locations.
CU's Nordic teams are headed up to Bohart Ranch for the MSU Invite. That resumes Saturday with the freestyle (5/10K) events and the classical (15/20K) races Sunday.
The Utah Invite continues with the alpine events, starting Thursday with the running of the women's giant slalom. The men's giant slalom is scheduled for Friday and both the men's and women's slalom races will be held on Saturday. Those are being held at Snowbasin, the new competition venue for the Utes.

Three Buffs Compete at 2017 L.L. Bean U.S. Cross Country Ski Championships on Tuesday
At the U.S. Cross Country Ski Championships held at Soldier Hollow Resort (same site as the Nordic races for the Utah Invitational), senior Jesse Knori placed 21st and freshman Anne Siri Lervik 35th out of 76 finishers in the women's 20km classic. Knori finished with a time of 1:09:00.21 while Lervik came in at 1:11:02.1.
Freshman Andrew Potyk raced in the junior men's 10km classic, placing 64th out of 156 finishers with a time of 35:54.8.
RMISA Skiers of the Week
On the alpine side, David Ketterer and Tonje Trulsrud are the winners of the RMISA Skier of the Week award.
Trulsrud had two podium finishes at the MSU Invite last week, finishing second in the giant slalom and third in the slalom. She became the first CU women's skier to have podium finishes in both the slalom and giant slalom at the same meet since Sara Hjertman did so at the Utah Invitational to open the 2011 season.
Ketterer won the men's slalom race by well over a second and placed fourth in the giant slalom.

He has opened up his first year as a Buff in impressive fashion and is the current points leader with 260 in the slalom in the NorAm Cup standings.
The NorAm tour is the premier level of ski racing in North America and the elite development pathway to European competitions and the World Cup. Event title winners and runner-ups earn World Cup start positions for the following season. The NorAm also serves as the primary selection series for the Junior World Championships.
The next NorAM Cup slalom race is being held Feb. 1-4 at Vail Mountain Resort.
