Evans Selected To U-23 USWNT Camp Roster, Hogg Signs Pro Contract

January 05, 2017 | Soccer

BOULDER - Colorado women's soccer player Danica Evans has been named to the U-23 United States Women's National Team camp roster. She is the third Buff to be a part of the U-23 USWNT, joining Nikki Marshall in 2009 and Amy Barczuk in 2011.

The U-23 USWNT will hold camp from Jan. 6-13 at the U.S. National Training Center in Carson, California. The roster of 30 is made up of mostly players from youth national teams, four NWSL players and several college players. U.S. Soccer expects several players to be drafted in next week's NWSL Draft as well.

Evans, one of seven forwards in camp for the U.S., is coming off a stellar senior season with the Buffs. She was a 2016 first-team all-Pac-12 selection after leading the team with 28 points, scoring 11 goals and adding six assists. In addition to leading the team in points, shots (84) and shots on goal (44), she tied for the team lead in goals and assists. She came on particularly strong towards the end of the season with 17 points in her final nine matches, including a pair of two-goal performances against Washington and California.

Evans is also preparing for the NWSL Draft, which will be held on Thursday, Jan. 12, in Los Angeles.

HOGG SIGNS FIRST PROFESSIONAL CONTRACT: Evans was not the only member of CU's 2016 senior class with big news this week. Kahlia Hogg signed her first professional contract on Thursday to compete for Canberra United in her native Australia.

It's Hogg's second stint--albeit first as a professional--with Canberra United. She made 24 appearances for the club in 2011-12 and led them to a W-League championship as an amateur.

Hogg made 16 appearances for the Buffs, including 13 starts as a defender in 2016. She missed six matches with a knee injury, but returned to come off the bench three times late in the season. She scored a goal against Iowa and had an assist in the season-opener at Air Force for a total of three points during the season. She was key in CU's outstanding defense, which allowed 0.88 goals per 90 minutes.

Canberra United's next match during the current season kicks off on Saturday against Adelaide United.
