Women’s Golf Tied for Eighth at Trinity Forest Invite

DALLAS, Texas - The No. 11 University of Colorado women's golf team is tied for eighth place after two rounds at the SMU Trinity Forest Invite.
The Buffs finished at 33-over or 306-303—609 and are tied for eighth with BYU. Houston sits in first at 10-over 586 with Kansas State five strokes back at 15-over 591. Tennessee is currently in third place at 18-over 594. Texas A&M holds the fourth spot at 21-over 597 and host SMU rounds out the top-5 teams at 24-over par 600.
"Tough day for Buffs," head coach Anne Kelly said. "We have seen a course like this that firm fast and shaved down around the greens. Very much a links style course. Good learning experience. But, of course we are really disappointed with the scores today. The plan is to come back strong tomorrow."
Sophomores Robyn Choi and Kirsty Hodgkins are both tied for 16th at 5-over 150.
Choi had a good first round carding a 1-over 73. She collected three birdies against two bogeys and a double. Choi struggled a little more in her second round. She started on hole No. 5 and fired off five straight pars but then added back to back bogeys on holes 10 and 11. She finished her second round at 5-over 77 to give her a 36-hole scorecard of 73-77—150.
Hodgkins traded with Choi as she struggled a little bit more in her first round carding a 4-over 76. She collected five birdies against five bogeys and two doubles. Hodgkins went on to shave two strokes off her first round score carding a 2-over 74 to sit tied with Choi for 16th place.
Senior Brittany Fan and freshman Alisha Lau are both tied for 41st place. Fan fired out a hole in one in her first round but then followed with two bogeys. Fan carded a 6-over 78 in the first round and shaved one stroke in her second round to finish at 5-over par 77.
Alisha Lau dropped five strokes between her first and second round to move up 11 spots to be tied with Fan at 41st place. Lau struggled in the first round carding an 8-over par 80, but settled in to card a 3-over 75 in the second round.
Gillian Vance is tied for 52nd place after two rounds with a scorecard of 79-79—158. Vance's first consisted of six straight bogeys along with a double and three birdies to finish at 7-over 79. She went on to card another 79 in the second round in a more consistent showing with 13 pars, three bogeys and two doubles.
The Buffs will close out the SMU Trinity Forest Invitational tomorrow with the final round.
