October 31, 2017 | Women's Golf
DALLAS, Texas — The No. 11 University of Colorado women's golf team moved up two places to finish tied for sixth place at the SMU Trinity Forest Invitational to conclude their fall season.
Colorado, one of only two teams to climb multiple spots, finished with a final scorecard of 306-303-304—913 or 49-over par to tie with Missouri and SMU. The Buffs also led the field in eagles with a team total of three; Fan with two and Choi with one.
"Another tough day for our team, but a good last nine holes for several players," head coach Anne Kelly said. "Our team had the second low score of the day, while overall scores were higher for all teams today. It was a tough course with tough hole locations, today especially."
Kansas State took home the tournament title with a 29-over 893 just edging out Houston, who finished second at 31-over 895. Tennessee took the third spot at 46-over par, while Texas Tech and Texas A&M both tied for fourth at 47-over 911.
Robyn Choi finished the tournament tied for 13th place marking her fifth top-20 finish during the fall slate. Choi closed out her final round at 3-over 75 to finish with a final scorecard of 73-77-75—225 or 9-over par. The sophomore fired out her second eagle of the season on the par five hole No. 7, in which teammate Brittany Fan also eagled in the final round. After starting her first 12 holes at 7-over par, Hodgkins finished strong and birdied three of her remaining six at the 373-yard, par-4 No. 6, 110-yard, par-3 No. 8 and 370-yard, par-4 No. 9.
Brittany Fan stormed into a top-20 finish during her final round. After starting the day in a tie for 41st, she carded a 1-over 73 to jump into a tie for 19th with a final scorecard of 78-77-73—228, 12-over par. Then, for the next 14 holes the senior traded off pars (10) bogeys (4) before teeing off on the 514-yard, par-5 No. 7 and subsequently notching her second eagle of the tournament. Fan was even on her final two holes, birdieing No. 8 and bogeying No. 9.
"Brittany had a very solid round, which was good to see," said Kelly.
Freshman Alisha Lau finished the tournament tied for 45th place with a final round at 9-over 81 with a final scorecard of 80-75-81—236. Lau had nine pars, six bogeys, two double-bogeys and one birdie coming at hole No. 8.
