BOULDER — Ron Scott, a CU Buff Club director of development, was recently honored with the CU Alumni Recognition Award, which honors CU alums who "celebrate the Forever Buffs tenets of connecting, contributing and celebrating their CU pride through their extraordinary service to the university."
Scott is in his eighth year as as a director of development, but his history with the university and CU athletics dates back more than five decades to his time as a football player under Eddie Crowder.
"One common theme for Ron throughout his life is carrying the CU torch at all times whether he is working, volunteering or doing errands on a weekend," said a CU Advancement colleague.
Scott was a three-year starter for the Buffs, helping CU to a 22-7-2 record as a middle guard during that time. A team captain in 1967, he was part of a 9-2 Colorado team that capped the season with a win over Miami in the Bluebonnet Bowl. He graduated with a degree in Business (Marketing) in 1968.
Scott returned to CU in 1982 after 14 years in the private sector. He served as the CU Athletic Department's director of development and Buff Club director, and was promoted to assistant athletic director in 1988. One of his primary tasks at that point under athletic director Bill Marolt was to coordinate the fundraising campaign to help design and build the Dal Ward Athletic Center, a $14 million, 100-percent privately funded project that was considered a state-of-the-art facility upon its completion.
After completion of the Dal Ward Center, he added the title of Vice President/Major Gifts and he worked with a team of development officers, focusing on major gifts for the university's four-campus system.
Scott left the university to return to the private sector in 2001, but he and his wife, Ann, returned in 2010, again working as a director of development for athletics. He also served as executive director of the Alumni C Club for two years.
Also receiving the Alumni Recognition Award this year was Ball Aerospace vice president of Mission Assurance Jeff Osterkamp.
Past winners from CU Athletics have included Ed Reinhardt (2016), Bill Harris (2012) and Alan Cass (1980).
The Alumni Awards are the second-longest tradition on campus, this year celebrating their 88th year.
