November 06, 2017 | Soccer
INDIANAPOLIS – Colorado's women's soccer team was selected to the NCAA Tournament on Monday. It is the 10th appearance in the postseason in the 22nd season of CU's program, and the fourth appearance in the past five seasons.
CU will host the University of Denver at 12 p.m. on Sunday at Prentup Field. Admission prices will be $8 for adults and $4 for youth and students with an ID. Tickets will go on sale through the CU ticket office on Tuesday. Season ticket holders will have to purchase tickets to Sunday's match, but Prentup Parking Passes will be honored.
The two teams have already met once this season with the Buffs winning 6-1 in Denver on Sept. 16. The match was 1-0 CU at halftime, before the Buffs piled on five more goals against the Pioneers' backup goalkeeper.
The Buffs (11-5-4) are on a roll of late, unbeaten in their past five matches and winners in their past three. During the five-match stretch, the Buffs have not conceded a goal.
Denver (11-8-1) earned an automatic bid to the postseason by winning the Summit League Tournament on Saturday. The Pioneers are also playing their best soccer of the season, winning their past five matches and seven of their past eight since the start of October.
Colorado is 8-9-1 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, including 4-3-0 under head coach Danny Sanchez, who is in his sixth season in Boulder. The Buffs have advanced to the second round in each previous appearance under Sanchez.
CU is 13-8-1 all-time against Denver, with a current five-match winning streak in the series, including 8-3-0 at home. CU has won both previous meetings between the two schools in the NCAA Tournament (2-1 in 2006 and 1-0 in 2013).
The Buffs are one of seven Pac-12 schools to be selected to the NCAA Tournament, including No. 1 seed Stanford, No. 2 seed UCLA and No. 3 seed USC. CU also played three NCAA Tournament teams in non-conference play in TCU, Texas and Denver.
