Pac-12 Honors DeLuzio For The Fourth Time This Season; Buffs Re-Enter AVCA Poll

BOULDER — For the second straight week, and the fourth this season, Colorado setter Brynna DeLuzio has been named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week. The 19-6 Buffaloes also re-entered the AVCA Division I Coaches Poll at 25th on Monday afternoon.
The Windermere, Fla., native guided the Buffs to another 2-0 week as CU swept Washington State and then-No. 11 Washington. DeLuzio recorded 8.33 assists per set while adding 2.50 digs per set and 1.00 blocks per set. The Buffs hit .267 and averaged an impressive 14.00 kills per set.
In the first contest against the WSU Cougars, DeLuzio handed out 28 assists in addition to three kills of her own. She also posted a career-high six block assists and picked up 11 digs for her 11th double-double of the season. The following match against the UW Huskies, DeLuzio recorded 22 assists, four digs and one ace. CU hit .340, which is its highest hitting efficiency in Pac-12 play this season.
This season DeLuzio ranks second in the Pac-12 with 11.05 assists per set, which is 26th in the NCAA. No other Buff has ever been a repeat selection for the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honor and DeLuzio has now earned it four times (Sept. 18, Oct. 1 and Oct. 30). Only one other freshman this season, UCLA's Mac May, has been a two-time honoree.
This is the third time this season the Buffs have been ranked in the AVCA Poll and all three times they have been picked 25th. There are six other Pac-12 teams in this week's poll. Stanford is second overall, while Washington is 13th. Those schools are followed by Utah (15th), Oregon (16th), Southern California (17th) and UCLA (18th).
The Buffs have also been moving up the NCAA RPI rankings and this week come in at 11th.
Colorado, which is tied for third in the Pac-12 standings with a 9-5 record, hits the road for a pair of matches in Los Angeles this week. The Buffs take on No. 18 UCLA on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 9 p.m. MT, and No. 17 Southern California on Nov. 11, at 2 p.m. MT.
