Four Buffs Honored In Pac-12 Postseason Awards

November 07, 2017 | Soccer

SAN FRANCISCO – Colorado's soccer team had four players recognized on Tuesday with postseason all-conference awards. Taylor Kornieck was named second-team All-Pac-12, while Becca Rasmussen and Jalen Tompkins were both named to the third team. Marty Puketapu was selected to the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team.

Kornieck, a sophomore from Henderson, Nevada, has started all 20 matches as a midfielder for the Buffs and has six goals and three assists. She ranks second in the Pac-12 with 84 shot attempts this season and is nine away from tying CU's single-season record of 93 by Anne Stuller in 2013. She also has three game-winning goals.

In less than two seasons, Kornieck already ranks seventh in CU history in career goals (17) and eighth in points (41).

Last year, Kornieck was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and first-team All-Pac-12.

Rasmussen has had an excellent first and only season in Boulder. She has started 17 of 19 matches as a forward and midfielder and has a team-high seven assists, ranking fifth in the Pac-12 in that category. Two of her assists have come on game-winning goals.

The Golden, Colorado, native transferred to CU this year for her senior season after three years at Georgia.

Tompkins, a sophomore from Phoenix, has started all 20 matches this season at goalkeeper. She currently is second in the Pac-12 in save percentage (.887) and third in goals-against average (0.53). Both of those numbers are currently the best in a season in CU history. She also has nine solo shutouts and five combined shutouts, helping the Buffs to a school-record 14 clean sheets this season.

She broke the school record for longest shutout streak at 481 minutes (Sept. 9 to Oct. 6) earlier this season and just surpassed that record again in a win at Utah on Friday, extending the new record to 498 minutes. Tompkins currently holds three of the top five longest shutout streaks in CU history.

Tompkins was named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team last season.

Puketapu, a native of Auckland, New Zealand, leads the Buffs with eight goals and 17 points, adding an assist. She has started 12 of 18 matches at forward and has five game-winning goals. She leads the conference in game-winning goals and is fourth in total goals scored.

She became the second CU freshman ever to record a hat trick, scoring three goals in a win over UC Riverside on Aug. 27. She also recorded a brace in a win over Arizona State on Oct. 19.

The Buffs are currently 11-5-4 overall and finished 5-4-2 in the Pac-12. They will host the University of Denver at noon on Sunday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
