Wichhart-Donzo Starts Season Off With Pentathlon Win at CSM

GOLDEN, Colo. – The University of Colorado junior Maja Wichhart-Donzo won the pentathlon title at the Colorado School of Mines Alumni Classic and Multi here Thursday at Steinhauer Fieldhouse, finishing first with a total score of 3,787.
WHAT HAPPENED, COMBINED EVENTS
Wichhart-Donzo started her day running the 60-meter hurdles and finished third with a time of 9.03. Next up was high jump, where the junior finished second to earn 771 points clearing a height of 5-4.25/1.63. In the shot put she added 584 points tossing a 35-6.5 a PR.
Wichhart-Donzo won the long jump with a PR of 18-9.75/5.73 to add 768 points. She closed out her Pentathlon with the 800 where she finished third clocking a 2:24.76. This is her second Pentathlon title as she won the Colorado Open in February.
Two other Buffs competed in the Pentathlon alongside Wichhart-Donzo; Michaela Wenning and Drianna Mustin who both took home an event title.
Michaela Wenning finished right behind Wichhart-Donzo collected 3,691 points total. She won the high jump clearing a PR height of 5-7.75/1.72. Wenning finished fourth in the shot put with a solid toss of 36-0.75/10.99 a huge PR from her last indoor season which was 2015. Drianna Mustin finished eighth overall with 3.186 total points.
On the men's side, Andrew Ghizzone paces the Buffs in the men's heptathlon as he sits in fourth after four events. Ghizzone has 2,917 total points. He won the long jump with a strong 22-10 mark. Davis Butte is in ninth place with 2,493 points. He tossed a solid shot put earning a PR mark of 30-3.5.
FIELD EVENTS
Freshman Gunner Rigsby made a splash in his first appearance in a buff uniform. He finished third in the long jump with an impressive 24-0.25/7.32 mark.
