BOULDER — The awards continue to come in for the Colorado women's lacrosse team as Paige Soenksen and Miranda Stinson were selected the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively.
The Buffaloes (1-0) opened the 2017 season on February 12 with an 11-10 upset overtime win against ninth ranked Northwestern (2-1). The win was the first against a ranked team in CU's four-year history.
Senior goalkeeper Soenksen, who was named the Epoch/USL Player of the Week earlier in the day, tied a career high with 19 saves against the Wildcats. She stopped 10 of 16 shots in the first half and then made another nine saves on 13 attempts in the second half.
Stinson, a sophomore midfielder, led the way offensively for the Buffs with her second career hat trick. She converted on two of three free position shots and added an assist for a team-high four points in the win.
The Buffs, who are ranked 11th in the NIKE/USL Poll, hit the road this week for a pair of games in DeLand, Fla. CU will take on UMass on Friday, Feb. 17, at 11 a.m. MT and Stetson on Sunday, Feb. 19, at 10 a.m. MT. Both games will be streamed live at gohatters.com.
