February 14, 2017 | Lacrosse
BOULDER — Just one day after earning a pair of player of the week honors, Colorado senior goalkeeper Paige Soenksen has been named the Inside Lacrosse National Player of the Week.
Soenksen, who was named the Epock/USL Player of the Week and the MPSF Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, tied a career high with 19 saves on Feb. 12 in an 11-10 overtime win against then-ninth ranked Northwestern, CU's first ever win against a ranked opponent. She stopped 10 of 16 shots in the first half and then made another nine saves on 13 attempts in the second half. Her 19 saves currently ranks second in the NCAA behind Vermont's Maddy Kuras (20).
Soenksen, an Encinitas, Calif. native, received 41% of the fan vote to win this week's national player of the Week honors, edging out Denver's Maddy Stevenson (27%), Syracuse's Riley Donahue (18%), and UNC's Sammy Jo Tracy (14%).
The Buffs, who are ranked 11th in the NIKE/USL Poll and 14th in the Inside Lacrosse Poll, hit the road this week for a pair of games in Florida. CU will take on UMass on Friday, Feb. 17, at 11 a.m. MT and Stetson on Sunday, Feb. 19, at 10 a.m. MT. Both games will be streamed live at gohatters.com for a fee.
