
No. 14/11 Buffs Head To Florida To Face No. 16/RV UMass & Stetson

BOULDER — For the first time this season, the Colorado women's lacrosse team will hit the road, heading to Florida for a pair of games. The Buffs will take on No. 16/RV UMass on Friday, Feb. 17, at 11 a.m. Then on Sunday, Feb. 19, CU will take on Stetson with opening draw set for 10 a.m.

ABOUT THE BUFFS: Colorado (1-0) earned its first ranking in program history after recording an overtime win against No. 9/9 Northwestern on Feb. 12. The Buffs are ranked 14th in the Inside Lacrosse Poll and 11th in the NIKE/USL Poll. The IWLCA did not release a poll this week; its first poll of the regular season is scheduled for Feb. 20.

Sophomore Miranda Stinson, the MPSF Offensive Player of the Week, leads the Buffs with four points this season, which includes her second career hat-trick and an assist. Senior Katie Macleay and junior Darby Kiernan both tallied a pair of goals in the win against NU and senior Johnna Fusco had two assists and a goal for three points.

Senior Paige Soenksen recorded 19 saves in the win, tying a career-high. She had 10 saves in the first half and nine in the second half. Her performance garnered a lot of attention as she was named the Epoch/USL and Inside Lacrosse National Player of the Week, MPSF Defensive Player of the Week and the CU Female Athlete of the Week.

ABOUT UMASS: The Minutewomen are 0-1 to start the season after falling 18-10 to No. 17 Boston College to start the season at home. Holly Turner led UMass with four goals and added an assist for five points. She had six shots in the effort and also recorded two caused turnovers and one ground ball. Hannah Murphy and Cassity Doster each tallied a pair of goals in the loss. In net, Lauren Hiller posted nine saves, seven in the first half and two in the second.

The Minutewomen own a 1-0 lead in the all-time series against CU. They won the first meeting 17-4 on March 27, 2014.

ABOUT STETSON: The Hatters will open their 2017 season on Thursday, Feb. 16 against Fresno State before hosting the Buffs on Sunday, Feb. 19. Stetson finished the 2016 season with a 5-12 overall record and went 1-7 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Hallie Merz led the team with 30 goals and collected 16 assists for 46 points. Lindsay Summers was the team leader in total points with 50; she recorded 14 goals and had 36 assists.
