Kiernan Named MPSF Offensive Player Of The Week
February 20, 2017 | Lacrosse
BOULDER — Junior Darby Kiernan has been selected as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Offensive Player of the Week, marking the second straight week Colorado has picked up the individual honor.
Kiernan, an attacker from Ridgewood, N.J., helped the Buffs to a 2-0 record last week with wins against then-No. 16 UMass and Stetson. In the 11-7 victory over UMass, Kiernan recorded four goals and an assist for five points to lead CU. She was 3-of-5 on free position shots and had 10 total shots in the game, nine of which were on goal.
In the following 22-3 win against Stetson, Kiernan recorded 19 draw controls, which broke an MPSF record (15) and tied the fifth best mark in NCAA history. Only two others in NCAA history have ever had 19 or more draw controls in a single game. Additionally Kiernan added a goal and two assists in the victory.
This is the third total MPSF player of the week award for the Buffs this season. Last week sophomore Miranda Stinson was named the offensive player of the week, while senior Paige Soenksen was awarded the defensive player of the week.
CU is now 3-0, which is the best start in program history. The Buffs are currently ranked in all three polls. They are 13th in the IWLCA Coaches Poll, ninth in the Inside Lacrosse media poll and 11th in the NIKE/US Lacrosse poll.
