CU To Wrap Up Regular Season On Saturday At WSU
February 24, 2017 | Women's Basketball
PULLMAN, Wash. - Colorado's women's basketball team will wrap up the regular season on Saturday at Washington State. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. MT at Beasley Coliseum. Radio coverage will be provided by ESPN 1600 AM and fans can watch online for free through Pac-12 Plus.
It is a battle of two teams coming off losses and looking to head into the Pac-12 Tournament on a high note. The Buffs are looking to rebound from their worst loss of the season on Thursday, 79-46 at the hands of No. 11/12 Washington. CU has only had three losing streaks of two or more games this season and the team is 4-5 over its past nine conference games.
Colorado, 15-13 overall and 5-12 in the Pac-12, is looking to end the season strong and secure a bid into the postseason. The Buffs are already eligible for the postseason--mostly likely the WNIT. A 16th win would improve their resume heading into next week's conference tournament and provide for a more-favorable first-round matchup.
Washington State, 10-18 overall and also 5-12 in the Pac-12, is on a five-game losing streak after falling 74-57 at home to Utah on Thursday. The Cougars have been decimated with injuries this season with the team's top three scorers currently out. Two bench players provided the majority of their offense on Thursday with Alexys Swedlund pouring in a team-high 19 points and burying three 3-pointers and Ivana Kmetovska scored 11.
Even with WSU struggling of late, Beasley Coliseum has proven a tough place to play for Colorado as the Buffs hold just one victory in five all-time trips to Pullman, Washington. CU won this season's first matchup in Boulder with the Buffs overcoming a fourth-quarter deficit to win 70-58. Colorado outscored Washington State 31-9 in the fourth quarter and was led by Kennedy Leonard's game-high 25 points.
