Soenksen, Stinson Repeat as MPSF Players Of The Week

March 13, 2017 | Lacrosse

BOULDER — For the second time this season, Colorado senior goalkeeper Paige Soenksen and sophomore midfielder Miranda Stinson have been selected the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively.

The Buffaloes, who are currently ranked fourth in the Cascade/Inside Lacrosse media poll and seventh in the IWLCA Coaches' poll, improved to 7-0 on March 12 with a 16-11 decision over then-No. 6 Penn State. Both Soenksen and Stinson played major roles in the Buffs' victory.

Soenksen, who has now been named the MPSF Defensive Player of the Week seven times in her career, recorded 16 saves against the Nittany Lions, stopping eight shots in each half. She allowed 11 goals for a .593 save percentage. Soenksen currently leads the NCAA in save percentage (.602) and goals against average (6.61).

Stinson scored nine points in the win, breaking CU's single-game points record, which had been eight. She tallied five goals and added four helpers, both career-highs. Stinson led both teams with 10 shots, eight on goal, and converted on 1-of-3 free-position shots. Four of her goals came in CU's 7-0 run, which put the Buffs up 14-8 in the second half.

The Buffs host Winthrop and Oregon this week at Kittredge Field in Boulder. CU will take on the Eagles on Wednesday, March 15, at 3 p.m. and the Ducks on Sunday, March 19, at 12 p.m.
