BOULDER — For the third time in five weeks, the Alpha Lacrosse National Player of the Week is a Colorado Buffalo.
Â
Sophomore midfielder Miranda Stinson became the third Buff to earn the honor after she helped CU to a 16-11 victory over No. 6 Penn State. Senior Paige Soenksen was the first Buff to record the honor on Feb. 14, while senior Johnna Fusco was selected for the award on March 6.
Â
Stinson scored nine points in the win, breaking CU's single-game points record, which had been eight. She tallied five goals and added four helpers, both career-highs. Stinson led both teams with 10 shots, eight on goal, and converted on 1-of-3 free-position shots. Four of her goals came in CU's 7-0 run, which put the Buffs up 14-8 in the second half.
Â
Stinson recorded 35% of the fan vote in an impressive field. Florida's Mollie Stevens tallied seven goals and 10 draw controls against Stony Brook, Maryland's Megan Taylor had 18 saves against Syracuse and Princeton's Olivia Hompe recorded four goals and one assist against Notre Dame.
Â
The award comes one day after being named the MPSF Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Â
The Buffaloes, who are currently ranked fourth in the Cascade/Inside Lacrosse media poll and seventh in the IWLCA Coaches' poll, improved to 7-0 with the win over Penn State and are one of three teams that are still undefeated (Maryland, 6-0; Princeton, 5-0). CU is set to host Winthrop and Oregon this week at Kittredge Field in Boulder. CU will take on the Eagles on Wednesday, March 15, at 3 p.m. and the Ducks on Sunday, March 19, at 12 p.m.
