Lacrosse To Host Fresno State On Saturday

BOULDER — The Colorado women's lacrosse team is set to host Mountain Pacific Sports Federation foe, Fresno State, on Saturday, March 25. Opening draw is scheduled for 12 p.m.

ABOUT THE BUFFS: Colorado improved to 9-0 after a pair of wins last week against Winthrop (18-6) and Oregon (16-11). The Buffs are currently ranked sixth in the IWLCA Coaches' poll and are fourth in the Cascade/Inside Lacrosse media poll and the Nike/U.S. Lacrosse Magazine poll. The Buffs have also won nine straight home games dating back to last season, which is another CU record. They won the final three at home in 2016 and have won six straight games this season.
 
Darby Kiernan leads CU with 27 points (26 goals and 11 assists). She also leads the league and ranks third nationally in draw controls per game (7.78). Kiernan is third in the MPSF (17th in the NCAA) in free-position goals per game (1.11). Katie Macleay is second on the team with 28 points (21 goals and seven assists), while Johnna Fusco is third with 26 points (20 goals and six assists). Fusco is the MPSF leader in free-position goals per game (1.43).
 
Defensively, Paige Soenksen has been one of CU's best players. She leads the NCAA with a 7.20 goals against average and is second with a .575 save percentage. The Buffs have only allowed 62 goals this season. As a team, CU has 57 caused turnovers this season. Sarah Brown has tallied 15 to lead the team and ranks 57th in the NCAA with 1.67 per game, while Molly Rovzar is second on the team with six.  
 
Nationally the Buffs lead the nation in several statistical categories. The Buffs are first in the nation in scoring defense (6.89), scoring margin (9.33) and are one of three teams that remain undefeated entering the week. CU ranks second in save percentage (.575), fourth in scoring offense (16.22) and draw controls per game (16.00), fifth in turnovers per game (13.44), is sixth in points per game (22.78) and is ninth in free-position percentage (.529).
 
ABOUT THE BULLDOGS: Fresno State improved to 7-2 this season with a 13-12 victory over St. Francis on March 22. The seven wins this season is a school record for FS. The Bulldogs are 0-1 in conference games after a 12-9 loss to Oregon on Feb. 26.
 
Tiffiny Wallace and Sarah Bloise lead the Bulldogs with 35 points each this season. Wallace has recorded a team-best 27 goals and eight assists, while Bloise has 26 goals and a team-high nine assists. Bloise also leads the team with 34 draw controls. FS has out-scored its opponents 116-91, although its opponents have a 247-240 edge in shots.
 
Laurel Maunder has started in all nine games in net this season and has recorded a 10.79 goals against average. She also has a .488 save percentage.
 
THE SERIES: The Buffs lead the all-time series 3-0.
 
HOME GAME INFORMATION: All of Colorado's home games will be played at Kittredge Field. Admission is free, as is parking in Lot 416 one hour prior to each game.
 
PROMOTIONS:
• Saturday is Chip's Kids Club Dino Day Event. Starting at 11 a.m., kids eighth grade and under can participate in dinosaur themed activities for some prehistoric fun. Activities include a Dino-egg hunt, Chip-asouras Rex coloring station, dino toss, face-painting and more!
• With Healthy Kids Day being canceled last week, we are not able to fully reschedule with our student-athletes but there will have a few sport activity stations available for kids to participate in starting at 11 a.m. as well on the middle Kittredge Field.
 
UP NEXT: Colorado is back on the road next week. The Buffs will take on Delaware on Wednesday, March 29 and on Friday, March 31, CU will face its fifth ranked opponent this season in [7/9/9] Stony Brook.
