Get To Know: Alexa Smith

BOULDER - The next Buff we'd like to introduce you to is Alexa Smith. Smith is an outside hitter from Colorado Springs, Colo. and will be a junior in the fall.
1. What is your favorite volleyball memory and why?
My favorite volleyball memory is either from my senior year of high school when we only lost two sets, went 29-0, and ended up winning back-to-back state championships, or playing in the World Championships in Thailand with the Youth National Team and earning a silver medal.
2. Who is someone you look up to the most and why?
I look up to my brother most because he has always been my biggest role model. He has an extremely hard work ethic in everything he does, and I really admire that.
3. Name a place you've always wanted to go to but never have been.
I've always wanted to go to Europe. I think it would be super cool to travel around and eat a lot of good food.
4. Why did you choose to become a Colorado Buffalo?
I chose to become a Colorado Buffalo because I wanted to be closer to home. The opportunity opened up after my freshman season, and I was just so excited about playing in my home state again and to be able to be closer to my family.
5. What is your favorite TV show?
Either Friends or the Office.
6. Where do you see yourself in five years from now?
Five years from now, I want to be playing professional volleyball, either overseas or in Puerto Rico.
7. If you had to be stranded on a deserted island with one person who would you want that one person to be?
If I had to be stranded with someone on an island, I would choose my yellow lab, Peanut, because I think a dog would be the best type of company you could have.
8. Do you have any hidden talents?
I don't have any hidden talents that I know of.
9. Did you play in any other sports growing up or in high school?
In high school I played basketball and volleyball.
10. How many pairs of shoes do you currently own?
Currently I own about 25 pairs of shoes.
11. Who is your best friend and how did you meet?
My best friend's name is Meghan and she pole vaults at Oklahoma State. We met in high school.
12. What is your favorite part about being at the University of Colorado?
My favorite part about being at Colorado is being able to look at the Flatirons every day. Something about getting up at 5:45 a.m. isn't so bad anymore when that is the first thing I get to look at when I start my day. The campus is just overall really beautiful and I enjoy that it's sunny almost every day of the year.
13. Name one celebrity you would like to meet and why?
I think I would like to meet Jennifer Anniston because I love her as an actress and I think she's hilarious.
