Fourth-Ranked Buffs Head East For Spring Break

CU will take on Delaware and No. 5 Stony Brook this week
BOULDER — The fourth-ranked Colorado women's lacrosse team is hitting the road this week for a pair of games on the East Coast.

The Buffs will face Delaware (5-3) on Wednesday, March 29. Opening draw is set for 4 p.m. MT at Delaware Stadium in Newark, Del. Then on Friday, March 31, CU will take on its fifth ranked opponent of the season, Stony Brook (8-1). The No. 5 Seawolves will host the Buffs at LaValle Stadium in Stony Brook, N.Y. at 5 p.m. MT.Â

ABOUT THE BUFFS: Colorado improved to 10-0 after defeating Fresno State 19-6 on March 25 and is currently ranked fourth in all three women's lacrosse polls. The Buffs have also won 10 straight home games dating back to last season, which is another CU record. They won the final three at home in 2016 and have won seven straight games this season.

Darby Kiernan leads CU with 42 points (28 goals and 14 assists). She leads the league and ranks third nationally in draw controls per game (7.60) and is fourth in the MPSF, 16th in the NCAA, in free-position goals per game (1.10). Katie Macleay is second on the team with 33 points (24 goals and nine assists), while Johnna Fusco is third with 31 points (25 goals and six assists). Fusco is the MPSF leader in free-position goals per game (1.63), which is fourth in the NCAA. Fusco leads the MPSF in goals per game (3.13), while Kiernan is seventh with 2.80. Nationally, Fusco is 20th and Kiernan is 56th.

Defensively, Paige Soenksen has been one of CU's best players. She is second in the NCAA with a 7.12 goals against average and is fourth in saves percentage (.568). Both marks lead the MPSF.

The Buffs have only allowed 68 goals this season and have scored 165. As a team, CU has 69 caused turnovers this season. Sarah Brown has tallied 17 to lead the team, while Molly Rovzar is second with seven.

In the NCAA, CU is first in scoring margin, scoring defense and win percentage, is second in scoring offense and is fourth in draw controls per game, turnovers per game, points per game and saves percentage. The Buffs are also one of two unbeaten teams remaining in the NCAA (Maryland is the other at 9-0).

ABOUT THE BLUE HENS: The Blue Hens are 5-3 this season, which includes a 2-3 record at home. Two of their three losses have come against ranked opponents.

Becky Gohsler is the top points-scorer for the Blue Hens with 17 goals and five assists (22 points). Jamie Schwartz ranks second on the team with 18 points (10 goals and eight assists), while Sydney Rausa is third with 16 (eight goals and eight assists). Taylor Carpentier has started all eight games for UD. She has recorded an 8.04 goals against average as well as a .410 save percentage.

As a team, the Blue Hens are ranked nationally in the top-10 in two stat categories. They are eighth in scoring defense (8.00) and 10th in turnovers per game (15.25). UD has caused 89 turnovers (11.13 per game). Two players have recorded nine each this season (Gohsler and Kirsten Hale), while another pair has eight a piece.

ABOUT THE SEAWOLVES: SBU has recorded an 8-1 record to start the season. Its only loss came against third-ranked Florida (22-14) in Gainesville, Fla. The Buffs are the fifth ranked opponent the Seawolves will face this season. SCU is 3-1 in its first four games against ranked teams.

SBU has recorded 132 goals this season and has held its opponents to just 68. Kylie Ohlmiller is the team's leading scorer with 65 points. She has collected 34 goals and 31 assists, both team-bests. Ohlmiller is the NCAA's points per game leader (7.22), is second in assists per game (3.44) and is third in goals per game (3.78). Taryn Ohlmiller ranks second on the squad with 30 points. She has picked up 23 goals and seven assists. Other top scorers for the Seawolves include: Dorrien Van Dyke (19g), Ally Kennedy (16g), Courtney Murphy (14g) and Samantha DiSalvo (11g). As a team, SBU leads the nation in assists per game (10.00) and is second in points per game (24.67).

The Seawolves are also ranked in the NCAAs top-10 in four other areas. They are fourth in scoring margin (7.11), seventh in scoring defense (7.56), eighth in saves percentage (.518) and are ninth in scoring offense (14.67).
Anna Tesoriero has played all 540:00 minutes in net for the Seawolves. She has recorded a 7.56 GAA, which is fifth in the NCAA, and a .518 save percentage which is good for ninth in the nation.Â
