Three CU Golfers Earn Pac-12 All-Academic Team Honors

BOULDER – Three University of Colorado golfers, two men and one female, were named to the Pac-12 All-Academic Golf teams that were released here Tuesday by the conference office.
 
On the men's team, Spencer Painton Jr. earned honorable mention honors as an Economics major. Painton Jr, is also minoring in Technology, Arts and Media.  This marks the first conference academic honor for Painton Jr., who competed in 18 rounds over nine tournaments this past season.
 
Teammate John Souza also earned honorable mention honors. The Phoenix, Ariz., native, is an Economics major earning his first academic award. Souza competed in 21 rounds over nine tournaments this season.
 
For the women's team, senior Esther Lee was named to the honorable mention team for the second straight year as she earned honors last season. The Los Alamintos, Calif. native, is a double major in communications and anthropology boasting a 3.325 grade point average. Lee closed out her career with a 73.03 stroke average which is the lowest average by a senior golfer at CU.
 
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and appear in at least 50 percent of the team's events.
