Buffs To Entertain TCU At Home On Friday

August 23, 2017 | Soccer

BOULDER – Colorado welcomes one of its top non-conference opponents to Prentup Field on Friday (4:30 p.m. kickoff/TV: Pac-12 Mountain) when TCU comes to Boulder. The Horned Frogs enter the weekend with a 2-0 record, defeating both ULM and UTSA by scores of 5-0. They, like the Buffs, are one of 39 teams in the country to open the season with back-to-back shutouts.

TCU is also coming off its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance and returns seven starters from a team that reached the second round.

What separated TCU from CU during the season's opening weekend was the offensive output. TCU's 35 points (10 goals and 15 assists) were the second-most in the nation, while the Buffs managed just one goal and one assist for three points.

SCOUTING THE HORNED FROGS
TCU is home to the Big 12 Player of the Week and Big 12 Freshman of the Week from the season's opening weekend. McKenzie Oliver, a junior striker, took home player of the week honors with two goals and two assists for six points. Natalee Heiser was the conference's freshman of the week after scoring two goals on five shot attempts. Heiser is a 5-foot-10 striker from Arlington, Texas.

Emma Heckendorn, a senior striker, had two assists and one goal over the weekend, moving her to a tie for the most assists (18) in school history. Heckendorn was a first-team All-Big 12 selection last season.

Defensively, the Horned Frogs were sound, allowing just five total shot attempts and one on goal in the two matches. Katie Lund played 135 minutes in goal and made the team's only save. Cachet Lue, a native of Canada, brings great size to TCU's back line at 5-foot-9 and was named to the Big 12 All-Newcomer Team last year after starting all 21 matches.

BUFFS WEEKLY RECAP
CU is coming off matches with two in-state rivalries to open the season and the Buffs bring a 1-0-1 record into the TCU match. They settled for a 0-0 draw at Colorado State on Friday, but rebounded with a 1-0 double-overtime win on Sunday over Colorado College.

Taylor Kornieck netted the overtime winner on Sunday and sophomore transfer Tatum Barton assisted on the play.

Jalen Tompkins and Scout Watson split playing time in goal. Watson stopped four shots and Tompkins stopped two.

LOOKING AHEAD
CU hosts UC Riverside on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Highlanders are 1-1 on the season, winning 1-0 over Southern Utah and falling 1-0 to Idaho. They finished last season 5-10-4.
