Buffs Add Barton, Drobney To Program

August 03, 2017 | Soccer

Barton is a transfer from Texas Tech, while Drobney joins CU as a volunteer assistant

BOULDER – Colorado soccer head coach Danny Sanchez announced two additions to the team on Thursday. Tatum Barton has joined the team as a transfer student-athlete and Jacy Drobney will serve as the team's volunteer assistant coach this season.

Barton, a native of Littleton, Colorado, and a 2016 graduate of Columbine High School, joins the Buffs this fall after one year at Texas Tech. With the Red Raiders last season, she appeared in 18 of the team's 20 matches and started nine times as a true freshman at forward. She totaled 798 minutes and attempted 20 shots.

At Columbine, she led the team to the state tournament each of her final three years, including a state championship as a sophomore when she was named Class 5A Player of the Year. She was also named first-team all-state each of those three seasons, combining for 72 goals.

"Tatum has scored a lot of goals with Real Colorado and at Columbine High School," Sanchez said. "She will add great depth and competition to our attack. We are very happy she came home to be a Buff."

Drobney is no stranger to the Pac-12 soccer scene after serving as a four-year starter and three-year team captain at Oregon State from 2010-13. She earned All-Pac-12 honors as well and led the Beavers to four NCAA Tournament appearances.

After graduation, she played one season for TSG Hoffenheim in Germany before beginning her coaching career. She currently serves as the soccer program coordinator at Impact Sports Performance in Superior, Colorado, and the intermediate soccer coach at Colorado Rush Soccer Club, positions she has held since 2015. Away from the field, she works at Fox Property Management.

A native of Longmont, Colorado, she graduated from Silver Creek High School in 2010, where she lettered in soccer and basketball.

"We are excited to add Jacy to our staff," Sanchez said. "She was a tremendous player in the Pac-12 and we feel her experiences can have a real positive impact on our student-athletes."

The Buffs began training camp on Wednesday and open the 2017 season at Colorado State on Friday, Aug. 18. They host Colorado College on Sunday, Aug. 20, at 3:30 p.m. in their home opener.
