CU Continues Strong Singles Play During Day Two of IU Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The University of Colorado women's tennis team continued their strong singles play this weekend at the IU Invitational, notching four wins. Though, the team faltered in doubles play with just two wins in six doubles matches.
"Today we came out and had some tough competition in singles and doubles," said head coach Nicole Kenneally. "We definitely came out and competed and got our fair share during the first round of doubles and singles.
The two doubles wins came in the morning from the pairings of senior Louise Ronaldson and junior Annabelle Andrinopoulos, who defeated Marquette's Andrea Amortegui and Milica Novakovic, 6-1, as well as sophomoreChloe Hule and senior Kyra Wojcik, who took down Wright State's Haily Morgan and Jillian Milano, 7-5.
However, the Buffs picked up three losses of their four doubles losses in the third round of doubles play in the afternoon.
"In the second round of doubles, we didn't get the results we would have liked, but process-wise we were doing the things that we have been working on," said Kenneally. "So, it was a positive to see the players continue to work."
The Buffs were much stronger in singles play. Ronaldson breezed to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Marquette's Natalija Popvoic. Junior Brigitte Beck took down Indiana's Emma Love, 6-1, 6-4. Wojcik defeated Abilene Christian's Nini Memishishi, 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (11-9), while Hule finished off DePaul's Marija Jovicic, 7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 1-0 (10-8).
Ronaldson, Beck, Wojcik and Hule all picked their second singles victories of the weekend, with Beck's wins coming in straight sets.
The IU Invitational finishes up play on Monday.
"Tomorrow we have two more doubles matches, so it will be good to continue to compete and learn from yesterday and today."
