News and notes surrounding the CU football program
BOULDER – This edition of the Colorado football notebook takes a look at three Buffs playing in Saturday's East-West Shrine Game, yet more publicity for Folsom Field and all of its beauty and some recognition from the Pac-12 Conference office.
• Colorado wide receiver Bryce Bobo, running back Phillip Lindsay and safety Afolabi Laguda are down in St. Petersburg, Fla., participating in the East-West Shrine Game. The all-star event takes place on Saturday, Jan. 20, and will be televised on the NFL Network (1 p.m. MT kickoff).
With the trio set to play for the West Team, Colorado has now produced 77 players that have played in the all-star game, this year's edition being the 93rd annual.
The five Buffs who played in last year's game – Jimmie Gilbert, Kenneth Olugbode, Tedric Thompson, Josh Tupou and Ahkello Witherspoon – all were in training camps with NFL teams last fall.
• Stadium Journey, a magazine with a quarterly publication, publishes reviews and information about sports stadiums from around the world. They have now reviewed more than 2,600 venues in 61 countries. Its most recent rankings came out Wednesday morning and Colorado's Folsom Field came in at No. 11 on its list of best stadium experiences in the United States and Canada, No. 2 in all of college football.
Its brief synopsis of Folsom Field:
"Among Folsom Field's timeless attributes are its location and setting. It sits more than a mile above sea level at 5,360 feet at the base of the Rocky Mountains...The Flatirons rock formations sit just beyond the stadium's west-side seats and give Folsom Field a unique and breathtaking feel. Perhaps most impressively, the Buffaloes take the field at the start of each half by running behind their live buffalo mascot, Ralphie. This is one of college football's great traditions and it highlights the Folsom Field experience."

• The Pac-12 Conference announced Wednesday its winners of the Zero Waste Competition and subcategories, one of which recognized Colorado.
The Pac-12 Zero Waste Bowl provides a friendly reminder and spirited platform for Pac-12 universities to engage on best practices in athletics waste diversion and to learn how each campus strives towards zero waste goals. In addition to the overall waste diversion rate, the universities were scored on innovation, partnership and participation, and fan engagement. CU was honored for its student-athlete engagement.
Colorado created a video featuring student-athletes in collaboration with Ralphies' Green Stampede that encouraged support for the "Water for the West" pledge program. The judges felt allowing the student-athletes to use their voice and their platform to encourage participation was empowering and went beyond merely having them volunteer to work/collect recyclables. In addition, the Sustainable Snacks program was established with the vision of providing nutritious, minimally processed and environmentally responsible snacks. With a grant from the Sustainable CU Environmental Center, the Performance Nutrition Department was able to purchase commercial food dehydrators and nut grinders to create sustainable food products for student-athletes on game day.
