CU national champion receives highest collegiate honor from the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame

DENVER Petra Hyncicova, a senior women's Nordic skier for the University of Colorado, has been named the 2017 Collegiate Women's Athlete of the Year by the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame.

Hyncicova will be honored at the 54th annual Colorado Sports Hall of Fame Induction & Awards Banquet on Wednesday, April 18, at the Hilton Denver City Center.

Hyncicova was named the 2017 women's Nordic National Skier of the Year by both the USCSCA and FasterSkier.com. Last winter, she became just the 15th female skier -- and fourth from CU -- to sweep the Nordic races at the NCAA Championships, capturing the 5K classic and the 15k freestyle titles. For the 2017 season, the native of the Czech Republic won five races and placed no lower than fifth in eight races.

Tickets for the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame Banquet at the Hilton Denver City Center are $200 each and Sponsor tables start at $2,500. For additional ticket and table information, please contact the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame (www.coloradosports.org, 720-258-3535). The Colorado Sports Hall of Fame & Museum is located at Gate 1 on the west side of Sports Authority Field at Mile High at 1701 Bryant Street in Denver.

Since its inception in 1965, the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame has inducted 252 individuals -- prior to last October's Hall of Fame selection meeting for the Class of 2018. The first class of inductees featured Earl "Dutch" Clark, Jack Dempsey and former Supreme Court Justice Byron "Whizzer" White. CU's own Bill Marolt, who won three national titles as a skier for the Buffs in the 1960s and coached Colorado to seven national championships, all in consecutive seasons from 1972-78, and was CU's Athletic Director from 1984-96, was a 2002 inductee.
