No. 16 Colorado Set to Host Oregon

October 10, 2018 | Soccer

BOULDER—The Colorado women's soccer team moved up four spots to No. 16 in this week's United Soccer Coaches poll and will close out its three-game homestand against Oregon on Saturday.

The Buffaloes (11-0-3, 3-0-2) jumped in the rankings after going 2-0 at Prentup Field last week. Colorado scored a 3-1 win over then No. 7 Washington State, handing the Cougars their first loss of the season. The Buffs wrapped up the weekend in thrilling fashion, defeating Washington 2-1 in double overtime.

Senior Jorian Baucom has been a key part of the Buffs' success. She registered the game-winners in both contests, totaling three goals in all. Baucom was rewarded for her efforts, picking up Top Drawer Soccer's National Player of the Week award to match her Pac-12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week honor.

Baucom leads the Buffs with 27 points, placing her seventh in the nation. Her game-winning goal against Washington marked her 100th career point, giving her the third most among active DI players. Baucom now has 11 goals on the season, tying Tatum Barton for ninth in the nation.

Taylor Kornieck continues to be a factor for the Buffs. She scored 1:22 into the game against Washington State, recording the third fastest goal in program history. She is third in the NCAA this season with nine assists, one shy from setting a school record.

Another integral part of the Buffs success this season has been goalkeeper, Jalen Tompkins. Tompkins has 10 wins this season and leads the Pac-12 with a .905 save percentage. She is two wins away from tying Jessica Keller atop CU's career wins list. Tompkins already owns the top save percentage in program history, boasting a .875 in her third season.

Oregon (7-5-1, 1-4-0) has lost its last four matches after a 1-0 start to Pac-12 play. The Ducks are strong in net thanks to Halla Hinriksdottir. She is second in the conference with five shutouts this season. Hinriksdottir is third in Oregon history with 22 career wins, totaling 14 shutouts.

Saturday's game is the annual Kick Cancer match. The first 250 fans will receive free pink koozies.
