Junior Robyn Choi Earns Top-Five Finish

WILMETTE, Ill. — The University of Colorado women's golf team ended the Windy City Collegiate Classic in a tie for ninth, recording a 32-over 896 here today at Westmoreland Country Club in Wilmette, Ill.
Ā
Colorado junior Robyn Choi had an impressive individual performance as she tied for third, finishing the tournament with a 3-under 231.
Ā
A trio of Pac-12 Conference teams finished 1-2-3. Southern California won the event after finishing the day with an even par 288. The Trojans' three-round score was also an even par 864 (286-290-288). Arizona State recorded a 5-over 869 (294-283-292) score to place second, while Arizona was third with a 7-over 871 (289-286-296). Ā Ā

The Buffs rebounded after a tough day on Monday, finishing the final round with a 5-over 293. CU moved up from 11th on Monday, to a ninth-place tie with South Carolina. Both teams were four strokes from eighth as Ohio State recorded a three-round 28-over 892.
Ā
Choi recorded an even par 72 on the final day, adding to her first day scorecard (72-69) for a 3-under 231. She earned 10 pars on the day and added four birdies to match her four bogeys and stay even. She was 2-under for the afternoon through 16 holes, but was unable to hold and collected a pair of bogeys as she finished the tournament. She tied for third with Ohio State's Jaclyn Lee and Arizona's Sandra Nordaas.
Ā
Senior Gillian Vance recorded her best collegiate finish, tying for 24th. She shot an even par 72 in the final round to give her a total score of 6-over 222. She started the day strong with a birdie on hole No. 9 (par 4) and bogeyed on the following hole (No. 10, par 5), which put her even through two holes played. She then rattled off six pars and a birdie to finish the back nine 1-under (35). On the front nine, she earned three straight pars until she birdied on the fourth hole. After another par, she bogeyed twice, bringing her score back to even, before posting a pair of pars to finish the day.
Ā
Junior Kirsty Hodgkins had a much better day, shooting a 1-under 71 in the third round, which put her at an 8-over 224 to tie for 34th. Through the first nine holes, she had eight pars and just one bogey. The last nine started with a par before she bogeyed her second hole of the day. She followed that up with three pars, but then recorded three straight birdies to go 1-under with one hole left. A par on the final hole secured her first sub-par round of the season.
Ā
"Today there was good play from Kirsty, Gillian and Robyn, although all three players were not satisfied. They felt they left a few shots out on the course," head coach Anne Kelly said. "Others than that, it was another tough day."
Ā
CU's individual Elle Otten had a nice finish, tying for 54th with a 15-over 231. She started on the back nine, which gave her a little trouble as she recorded five bogeys and one double, in addition to three pars for a 7-over 43. She came back in the front nine, finishing the day with nine straight pars for a 7-over 79.
Ā
"Elle did show some good signs this week, especially with even par on her second nine today," Kelly said. "The good news is we are learning a lot and a tough course like this one really points out the areas we need to work on."
Ā
Senior Haley Nist had her best round of the tournament after she shot a 6-over 78. Her three-round total, 23-over 239, tied for 67th. She recorded 12 pars in addition to five bogeys and one double. Freshman Malak Boureada tied for 70th after finishing with a 26-over 242. She shot an 11-over 83 in the final round, which included one birdie, nine pars, four bogeys and four doubles.
Ā
USC's Gabriela Ruffels, who was the leader after the first day, won the tournament with a 10-under 206 after recorded a 1-under 71 in the final round. ASU's Raquel Olmos ended up second as she also shot a 1-under 71 in the final round to add to her two-day score of a 9-under 207.
Ā
Colorado will be back in action Oct. 19-21 at the Betsy Rawls Invitational in Austin, Texas.
