Buffs Move Up In National Polls

October 07, 2018 | Football, Neill Woelk

BOULDER — Now one of just 11 remaining unbeaten FBS teams in the nation, the Colorado Buffaloes moved up again Sunday in the national polls, jumping to the No. 19 spot in the Associated Press rankings and moving to No. 18 in the Amway/USA Today Coaches poll.

Mike MacIntyre's Buffs, who improved to 5-0 Saturday (2-0 Pac-12) with a 28-21 win over Arizona State, made their 2018 debut in the polls last week, checking in at No. 21 in the AP rankings and No. 22 in the USA Today poll.

Now, they are not only the only unbeaten team in the Pac-12, they are the lone unbeaten team west of the Mississippi after Oklahoma suffered a 48-45 loss to Texas.

The Pac-12 still has four teams in the top 25, led by Washington (No. 7 AP/No. 7 USA Today). Others ranked include Oregon (17/17), Colorado (19/18) and Stanford (24 USA Today). Stanford also received votes in the AP poll while 5-1 Washington State was named on ballots in both.

Among the teams Colorado moved past in at least one of the polls were 4-2 Stanford (lost to Utah), 4-2 Auburn (lost to Mississippi State), 5-1 Kentucky (lost to Texas A&M) and 3-2 Michigan State (lost to Northwestern). Florida (5-1)  made the biggest jump in the coaches poll, moving from receiving votes last week to 16th after a win over previously unbeaten LSU, and the Gators moved up from 22nd to 14th in the AP poll. Auburn took the biggest drop, falling from 12th to 21st in the coaches poll and 8th to 21st in the AP rankings.

CU now faces perhaps its most difficult stretch of the year with a pair of road games directly ahead. The Buffs travel to Los Angeles next Saturday for a meeting with USC (8:30 p.m., FS1), then head to Seattle the following week for an Oct. 20 meeting with the No. 7 Huskies.
