2019 Colorado Lacrosse Schedule Announced

December 20, 2018 | Lacrosse

BOULDER — The University of Colorado lacrosse team does not shy away from tough competition and this year's schedule reflects just that as the Buffaloes will face six teams that were ranked in the final IWLCA top-25 poll this spring.

"I am really excited about this year's schedule and the opportunity we have to host some of nation's top teams at home," head coach Ann Elliott Whidden said. "Our team is excited about the challenges early on in our season and jumping right in. I believe our out of conference play will prepare us for our tough Pac-12 schedule."

The Buffs finished the 2018 season ranked 14th in the IWLCA Poll after advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament where they fell to No. 6 Florida, which, coincidentally, the Buffs will play to open the season on February 9 at Kittredge Field in Boulder.

Colorado will then hit the road to take on No. 15 Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va., on Feb. 16. This will be the second meeting between the two programs; CU defeated the Hokies 18-3 in Boulder during the 2018 campaign.

The Buffs return to Boulder the following weekend, but the schedule will not get any easier as Colorado will host fifth-rated Stony Brook on Feb. 22 and Michigan on Feb. 24.

The Pac-12 Conference schedule will start for the Buffs on the road in Northern California. CU will battle Stanford, which ended the season ranked 16th, on March 8, before heading to Berkeley on March 10 to take on the California Bears.

Colorado will then start a four-game homestand, which will include three conference games. Southern California, which was 24th in 2018, will take on the Buffs on March 15. The Buffs will host Arizona State on March 17, which will also be CU's first game of the season on Pac-12 Network. On March 23, Oregon will be in Boulder to wrap-up the first half of the conference schedule. The homestand will conclude on March 26 with the Buffs taking on in-state rival, No. 17 Denver.

The Buffs' final five games of the regular season will all be televised on Pac-12 Network. CU will travel to Los Angeles to face USC on April 5 and on April 7, the Buffs will face ASU in Tempe. Stanford and California will visit Boulder on April 12 and 14, respectively, before CU ends the regular season against Oregon on April 19 in Eugene.

Post-season action will start with the conference tournament, April 25-28, with Oregon serving as the host this year. All five games will be televised on Pac-12 Networks. The quarterfinals will be played on April 25 with the semi-finals on April 26. After a day off, the championship will be held on April 28.

CU will look to make its third straight NCAA Tournament this season. The first and second rounds of the tournament are May 10-12, while the quarterfinals are May 18-19. The semifinals will take place on May 24 with the championship game following on May 26.

"We know how important conference play is when it comes to the NCAAs and trying to get a bid, and our early challenges will be crucial in preparing us for conference," Whidden said. "Overall, our team is really excited about our schedule, start to finish, and the great opportunities we will have this spring to play some incredible teams both in and out of conference!"

Before the season starts, the Buffs will have a chance to see how they stack up against the nation's best on Feb. 1 when they scrimmage No. 8 Northwestern in Evanston, Ill. NU has been one of the nation's elite programs and will likely be ranked highly this season.
