Ketterer Hits The Podium Thursday In NorAm Cup Slalom Race

February 15, 2018 | Skiing

It was a second place finish for the CU sophomore who was the 2017 NCAA slalom and giant slalom champion as well as the 2017 NorAm Cup slalom champion

STOWE, Vt. — University of Colorado sophomore alpine skier David Ketterer finished second in Thursday's NorAm Cup slalom race held at Stowe Mountain Resort.

Ketterer, who was the 2016-17 NorAm series slalom champion, put together a two-run time of 1:48.48 and was just 0.31 seconds behind race winner Michael Ankeny of the U.S. Ski Team.

After the first run Thursday, Ketterer ranked fifth with his time of 53.56 and was 1.08 seconds back of run one leader Tanguy Nef, a sophomore on Dartmouth's ski team.

Ketterer's second run time of 54.92 was the fifth fastest in the flip and allowed him to move up onto the podium and secure the second place finish.

This was just his third NorAm Cup slalom start of the winter. His first two were back on Nov. 20-21 at Copper Mountain Resort where he had a fourth-place finish in the first race, but did not finish the second one. He did make eight World Cup slalom starts over the three-month span from November through January.

In the most recent FIS Points list, Ketterer remains the 31st-ranked slalom skier in the world.

Ketterer will have one more NorAm Cup slalom race on Friday before returning to Colorado where he and the Buffs will compete in next weekend's RMISA Championship/NCAA West Regional at Steamboat Springs.

About the NorAm Cup
The NorAm tour is the premier level of ski racing in North America and the elite development pathway to European competitions and the World Cup. Event title winners and runner-ups earn World Cup start positions for the following season. The NorAm also serves as the primary selection series for the Junior World Championships.

The past two NorAm Cup winners have come from the NCAA circuit. Erik Read, formerly of the Denver University ski team, won it in 2016, while Ketterer's 2017 slalom cup victory was by 275 points, the second largest winning margin in the cup in the last 20 years.
