Volleyball Begins Full-Team Spring Practice
March 08, 2018 | Volleyball
BOULDER — Colorado hit the gym for a full team two-hour practice this morning, marking the official start to its spring volleyball season.
"Spring is always a big developmental time for us, it is a good opportunity for our younger players to get a lot of reps," Colorado Head Coach Jesse Mahoney said. "So far we are doing what I thought that we would do, we have some younger kids that are using this opportunity to get better. We have some of our older players that are using the opportunity to get better as well as stepping into some leadership roles. We are pretty excited about where we are this spring."
The Buffs have already had partial team practices, which has giving Mahoney and the rest of his staff a chance to work with the returning players on the roster.
"Freshman wise, everybody knows Brynna DeLuzio is a great player, I think that she is getting even better. She has a great work ethic and is really using this time to fine tune some things. Danielle Price has really done a nice job; she is a big and long, physical player that needs some opportunity in the live setting. She is getting that, so those two players are doing a really nice job.
"Naghede Abu will be a fourth year starter for us, but she is having some really good showings in the spring as well. In general I think that we are all using the opportunity to grow and we are looking forward to being ready for next fall," Mahoney said.
The Buffaloes finished the 2017 season with a 24-10 record and reached the NCAA Sweet 16 for the first time in 20 years.
