The Colorado track and field program sent a small contingent up north to compete in the 2018 Tom Benich Invitational hosted by the University of Northern Colorado.

GREELEY, Colo. — The Colorado track and field program sent a small contingent up north Saturday to compete in the 2018 Tom Benich Invitational hosted by the University of Northern Colorado.

A total of 12 Buffs competed in the single-day meet that was hosted at Nottingham Field. There was team scoring kept and despite the limited number of Buffs competing, Colorado finished seventh in both the men's and women's side at the meet. The men notched 37 points while the women's showing was an impressive one with just two Buffs competing that earned 22 points. Junior Elisa Grandemange led the charge there by winning the javelin throw with a new PR to earn 10 points.

Junior men's thrower Austin Swanson highlighted the day for Colorado on the men's side, setting new PR's in two different events.

Here is a look at the Buffs who competed in Greeley on Saturday:

ELISA GRANDEMANGE: In the women's javelin, she was the top thrower in the field and by nearly 12 feet. Her mark of 138-1 (42.10) gave her a new PR in the event and her second event victory of the season (she won the women's hammer throw at the Jerry Quiller Classic back on March 16). She also placed fifth in the hammer throw with a mark of 179-3 (54.65m). That was the top mark she has recorded in the event this season, beating her previous high set three weeks ago by over five feet.

AUSTIN SWANSON: The junior from North Hollywood, Calif. set a new personal record in the shot put when he recorded a mark of 50-10.75 (15.51m) to finish in third place in the event. His previous personal best was 48-8 (14.83m) that was recorded two weeks ago at CU's Jerry Quiller Classic. Swanson also was fifth in the men's hammer throw with a mark of 173-6 (52.89), also a new PR.

DAVION TAYLOR: He ran in the 100-meter dash and took second place with a time of 10.85. It was five one-hundredths of a second faster than what he clocked a week ago at the Pac-12+/Big Ten Invitational and that was coming one day after finishing up with spring football practice, as he participates in two sports at Colorado.

MARIAH WALKER: She finished third in the women's shot put with a throw of 43-8 (13.31m), was seventh in the discus at 139-0 (42.37m) and 11th in the hammer throw with a mark of 144-0 (43.89m). Her hammer throw was the furthest she has thrown this season in three meets now.

MATTHEW DENTON: Placed sixth in the hammer throw with a mark of 170-7 (52.00m).

BROCK KNECHTEL: The freshman placed second in the men's discus with a throw of 158-11 (48.44m) and was 13th in the hammer throw at 152-7 (46.51). His hammer mark beat his only other previous throw recorded in the event one week ago by nearly 10 feet.

NATHAN HOY: Running in the 400-meter hurdles, Hoy placed sixth with a time of 55.08. It was a marked improvement from his first 400-meter hurdle time he recorded last week at the Pac-12+/Big Ten Challenge when he was clocked at 55.87.

LUKE DESMOND: A freshman from Colorado competing back in his hometown of Greeley (a Windsor High School graduate), he placed sixth in the 400 meters with a time of 49.33. It was the second time he's run in the 400 meters this year; he clocked in at 49.09 on March 17 in the Jerry Quiller Classic.

GRAYSON WEBBER: Placed seventh in the men's discus with a throw of 153-9 (46.87m) and was ninth in the hammer throw with a mark of 163-1 (49.70).

PADEN GATLIN: He threw 137-1 (41.79m) in the men's discus to finish 13th.

AARON HAIGLER: He was 14th in the men's discus, right behind his teammate Gatlin, with a throw of 136-7 (41.64m). He also competed in the hammer throw and recorded a top mark of 134-1 (40.87).

CALEB PENNER: The fourth Buff competing in the men's discus, he placed 16th with a throw of 131-4 940.04).
