Brown Named IWLCA Defensive Player Of The Week

April 11, 2018 | Lacrosse

BOULDER – After a great showing last week in a pair of wins for the Buffaloes, Colorado senior Sarah Brown has been named this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Defensive Player of the Week.

Brown helped the 16th-ranked Buffs to a pair of Pac-12 wins in Boulder, which included a 10-7 upset of Southern California and a 16-3 win against Arizona State.

Brown won seven of CU's 15 draw controls against USC. In addition, she recorded four ground balls and had one caused turnover. She helped CU's transition offense, which cleared at 88.8 percent (16-18). Her quick speed in the snow helped get the Buffs down the field to attack.

In the second game against Arizona State, Brown recorded a career-high two points. She scored her first career free-positon goal to give CU a 4-0 lead and then added an assist on Carly Cox's goal that put CU up 6-0. Brown added three ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers; CU was a perfect 16-16 on clear attempts in the game.

This is the first national player of the week honor for Brown and it is just the second time a Buff has earned the IWLCA Player of the Week honor. Miranda Stinson was tabbed the IWLCA Offensive Player of the Week last season (March 15, 2017).

CU heads out on the road to Northern California this week for a pair of Pac-12 match-ups. The Buffs will first take on Stanford on Friday, April 13, at 8 p.m. MT. Then on Sunday, April 15, Colorado will square off against California at 1 p.m. MT.
