Brown & Kiernan Sweep Pac-12 Player Of The Week Honors

BOULDER — For the second time this season, the Colorado women's lacrosse team has swept the Pac-12 Conference weekly awards. Darby Kiernan has been named the offensive player of the week, while Sarah Brown has been selected the defensive player of the week.
Colorado (9-4, 6-1 Pac-12) recorded a pair of Pac-12 wins last week, starting with a 10-7 upset over then-No. 16 Southern California in a cold and snowy match-up at Kittredge Field on April 6. Then on April 8, the Buffs dominated Arizona State to earn a 16-3 victory at home.
Brown won seven of CU's 15 draw controls against USC. In addition, she recorded four ground balls and had one caused turnover. She helped CU's transition offense, which cleared at 88.8 percent (16-18). Her quick speed in the snow helped get the Buffs down the field to attack.
In the second game against Arizona State, Brown recorded a career-high two points. She scored her first career free-positon goal to give CU a 4-0 lead and then added an assist on Carly Cox's goal that put CU up 6-0. Brown added three ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers; CU was a perfect 16-16 on clear attempts in the game.
Kiernan had a great weekend, totaling 11 points with seven goals and four assists. She converted on five of eight free-position attempts. Kiernan led the Buffs with 15 draw controls and had three ground balls. In the game against USC, Kiernan tied a career-best eight points with five goals and three assists. She was 3-4 on free-position attempts and added seven draw controls and two ground balls.
In the following game against the Sun Devils, Kiernan recorded three points. She scored two free-position goals and added an assist. Kiernan was again a force in the draw circle, recording eight wins.
This is the first Pac-12 honor for Brown, while it is the third for Kiernan. In total, CU has earned conference player of the week honors this season.
