Golfers Macdonald, Fan Earn UCHealth CU Athlete of the Week Honors

May 02, 2018 | Men's Golf, Women's Golf

Golfers Ross Macdonald and Brittany Fan have been named this week's UCHealth CU Athletes of the Week after their outstanding performances at last week's Pac-12 Championships.

Sophomore Ross Macdonald enjoyed a record-setting conference tournament at nearby Rolling Hills Country Club, shooting school-best 12-under 272 to tie for second place individually (along with CU teammate Yannik Paul). The Valor Christian product earned the sixth and final spot on CU's Pac-12 travel squad, but played a vital role in the Buffs' second place team finish, the highest since joining the Pac-12 in 2009. With a 69-69-67-67 scorecard, Macdonald becomes just eighth player in school history to shoot in the 60s in every round of an event, and joins teammate Yannik Paul as one of two Buffs to ever do so over four rounds of play. Macdonald made 18 birdies and 48 pars in total, with only six bogeys over 72 holes.

On the women's side of the Pac-12 Championships, senior Brittany Fan led the way, shooting a 1-under 215 at the Broadmoor Golf Club to finish tied for seventh. It marks the 11th tournament of the season in which Fan has finished in the Top 20, tying her for the most in school history. Her 215 is the fourth best 54-hole score in CU history at a conference championship. Fan got off to a hot start, carding 70 and 71 in the first two rounds of play, which kept her below par for the weekend despite a tough final round. She earned All-Pac-12 honorable mention after guiding the Buffs to a sixth place team finish.

Also nominated for this week's honors: Darby Kiernan (lacrosse), Adam Peterman (track & field)

Senior Darby Kiernan led the Buffs to the championship game at last weekend's Pac-12 tournament, recording four goals and 17 draw controls. She had three goals in CU's 19-9 semifinal victory over Oregon, including the 200th of her decorated Colorado career. Then in a loss to Stanford in the championship game, Kiernan registered a game-high nine draw controls, to go with a goal and an assist.

Senior Adam Peterman had an impressive showing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Oregon State High Performance Meet last Friday, setting the facility record on his way to winning the event by almost 12 seconds. It was the first first-place finish for Peterman this season, while his 8:54.86 time also makes it his fastest steeplechase of the season.
