Buffs gave their team a good start for the rest of the competition

BOULDER – Colorado's track and field team had another great day at the Pac-12 Combined Events Championships. Buffs finished day two with three men in the top five and the women finished with one in the top five.

Junior, Maja Wichhart-Donzo scored 5306 points at the end of the two day competition, earning her fifth place overall. She clocked in at 2:15.68 in the 800 meters, setting a personal record. Following her was teammate Michaela Wenning who finished in 11th place. Wenning also set a personal record in the javelin, landing at 122-4/37.29. Both Wichhart-Donzo and Wenning have qualified to compete in the NCAA championships in triple jump and high jump, respectively. Drianna Mustin set personal records in the long jump at 16-9.75/5.12, and overall points scored, earning 4516.

On the men's side, both Andrew Ghizzone and Davis Butte earned spots on the podium at the end of day two, placing second and third, respectively. Aaron Carmichael accumulated 5822 points landing him in fifth place, and teammate Nate Gravelding finished behind him in seventh place. Ghizzone finished with 6284 points and Butte finished with 6079 points. Ghizzone set a personal record in the javelin with a distance of 21-9.00/6.63. Nate Gravelding set personal records in six out of the 10 events, finishing with 5783 points for the day.

The women earned four points for their team, so are entering next weekend with a good start at fifth place. The men got 20 points for their team, putting them in first place through the heptathlon, and giving them a good jumping off point for next weekend's competition.
