June 18, 2018 | Volleyball
BOULDER — Colorado will have 16 matches, seven home, seven away and two neutral, featured this volleyball season on Pac-12 Networks.
Fourteen of the matches will be against conference opponents, while the remaining two will be against Illinois and Iowa during the second weekend of non-conference play, August 31 and September 1, in Seattle, Wash., for the Pac-12/Big Ten Challenge.
Just as they do every season, the Buffs kick off the Pac-12 slate against Utah, hosting the Utes at the CU Events Center (formerly the Coors Events Center) on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m., the first of three Pac-12 Networks matches. CU will then host Southern California on Sunday, Sept. 23, in its only meeting of the season between the two teams.
CU will then hit the road for a pair of matches, playing its third TV contest against Washington in Seattle, Wash., on Sept. 28. The Washington State Cougars will entertain CU on Sunday, Sept. 30, in Pullman, Wash.
The next four matches for the Buffs will be in Boulder, starting with matches against California and Stanford, both of which will be televised on Pac-12 Network. Oregon and Oregon State will be in town the following weekend and the contest against the Beavers will also be broadcast on the networks.
Colorado wraps up the first half of league play the following week against the desert schools. The Buffs will face Arizona on Oct. 19 and Arizona State on Oct. 21; both games will be on Pac-12 Network.
The second part of the league slate has the Buffs playing in four straight TV matches. CU will host WSU and UW before heading to Cal and Stanford. The game against the Bears will be the Pac-12 Network's Spike Night Match of the Week, which will be broadcast live on the main network at 8 p.m. on Oct. 31. Colorado's final home stand will be the second weekend of November with the Buffs hosting ASU and UA.
Colorado ends the season with four straight matches on the road. The Buffs will head to the Pacific Northwest to take on Oregon and Oregon State the week prior to Thanksgiving. The Buffs finish the regular season the following week. CU will face UCLA on Wednesday, Nov. 21 and will conclude the regular season on Friday, Nov. 23 at Utah in their final TV game.
Nine of the 12 conference teams made the NCAA Tournament in 2017. Stanford made it the furthest in the tournament, advancing to the semi-finals, while USC and Washington advanced to the region finals. Colorado, UCLA and Utah made the round of 16, while Oregon and Washington State made it to the second round. Oregon State was the other team that qualified for the tournament.
