Smith Duo Named to Buffs Invitational All-Tournament Team

BOULDER, Colo. — After going 2-1 in the Buffs Invitational this weekend, the University of Colorado volleyball players Anyse Smith and Alexa Smith have been named to the Buffs Invitational All-Tournament team. The duo looks to shine again this weekend when the Buffs host the Colorado Classic. Colorado will take on Portland State at 7 p.m. Friday evening, then come back Saturday for a double-header against Indiana State at 10 a.m. and Colorado State at 8 p.m. The match against CSU is deemed a blackout night for CU volleyball.

Redshirt freshman Anyse Smith had a weekend to remember for a home opener as a player. She led the tournament with a hitting percentage of .523, nearly eight percent better than the next closest player. In three matches she led the team with 39 kills, committing just five errors all tournament long. She was also ninth in the tournament in blocks with seven. Smith was second in the tournament with 3.9 kills per set.

Senior Alexa Smith continued to dominate for the Buffs this weekend. She posted her second double-double of the season Friday against Georgia with a season-high 17 digs. She was fourth in the tournament with 3.7 kills per set and seventh in hitting percentage at .255. She was also fourth in digs per set with 2.7 and fifth in blocks per set with .9. Smith is chasing history, as she looks to become the 16th player in Colorado history with 1,000 career kills this weekend. The senior is just 28 kills away from the milestone.

Georgia's T'ara Ceasar was named tournament MVP. The sophomore led the Bulldogs to a 2-1 record and a tournament championship after defeating Colorado and North Carolina. She led all players with 4.38 kills per set and was eighth in digs per set with 2.15.
