Split Weekend On Deck For Colorado Cross Country Teams

September 26, 2018 | Cross Country

BOULDER — The 2018 cross country season is about to kick into high gear for the University of Colorado as the Buffaloes will compete at a pair of meets this weekend.

The first contest of the weekend is the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational, Friday, Sept. 28, in Madison, Wis. at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course, the site of the 2018 NCAA Championship. The Buffs will send their varsity squad to that race to compete against 34 other teams. In addition to the championship men's 8-kilometer and women's 6k race, there will also be a pair of 'B' races. Teams are allowed to run seven athletes in each race.

The day will begin at 11 a.m. CT (10 a.m. MT) with the women's 'B' race, which will be followed by the men's 'B' race. The championship races will begin at 12:20 p.m. CT (11:20 a.m. MT) with the women and men will start at 1 p.m. CT (12 p.m. MT).

All four races will be streamed online, but a subscription is required.

This will likely be the first race of the season for most of CU's varsity racers, including All-Americans John Dressel, Eduardo Herrera, Sage Hurta, Dani Jones and Joe Klecker.

The other meet CU will send its emerging varsity harriers to is the Stanford Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 29, at Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif. The women's 6k race will start at 9:50 a.m. PT (10:50 MT), with the men's 8k following at 10:30 a.m. PT (11:30 a.m. MT).

Colorado enters the weekend as one of the top teams in both polls. The women are ranked second overall, while the men are seventh.
