BOULDER — Former University of Colorado standout Sarah Brown has been named to the U.S. Lacrosse Women's National Team roster for the Team USA Fall Classic on October 6.
U.S. Head Coach Jenny Levy announced the 27-player roster on Tuesday afternoon. "Our coaching staff is excited for our first training camp and to coach this talented group of athletes," Levy said. "By 2021, our goal is to work with at least 80 players to build a hardworking, exciting and cohesive team to represent the USWNT in the next World Cup.
"We are using a new process to identify our team and although change can create uncertainty, I am confident that the process will excite and energize elite players who want the opportunity to demonstrate excellence, skill, creativity and team play at the highest level."
Brown, a defender from Boulder, Colo., is one of eight newcomers to the team who graduated this past spring. She joins Kasey Behr, Kristen Gaudian, Kelly Glatthorn, Courtney Murphy, Katie O'Donnell, Kylie Ohlmiller and Shayna Pirreca.
A two-time IWLCA All-American, Brown is CU's single game caused turnovers leader (6) and single season caused turnovers leader (34), as well as the career leader in caused turnovers (96). In 2018, she helped the Buffs record a 9-1 record in Pac-12 play as they won the inaugural regular season Pac-12 Championship. Brown was named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year and was a two-time Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week. She was also selected as the IWLCA Defensive Player of the Week for April 11 and became one of CU's first-ever IWLCA First-Team All-Americans with teammate Julia Lisella.
The women's national team will play James Madison at the U.S. Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md., following the game between the U.S. Men's National Team and Yale, which is at 12 p.m. ET. Tickets are available online (https://shop.uslacrosse.org/products/team-usa-fall-classic) with a $5 savings over the walk-up price. Proceeds benefit the U.S. National Teams Program.
