Colorado Ranked in Top-25 In USTFCCCA Week 1 Poll

BOULDER – The University of Colorado track and field program boasts both the men and women's teams in the top-25 of the United State Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association rankings, the association announced Tuesday afternoon.
The men have the top spot between the two CU teams, ranked 18th in the nation after opening 15th in the preseason poll. The men's scoring index come from two individuals, Joe Klecker and John Dressel. Nearly half of the points the Buffs are ranked for come from Klecker being ranked third in the USTFCCCA poll for his 4:01.72 mile he ran last season at the Colorado Invitational.
On the other side of the polls, the women are ranked 23rd after beginning the preseason ranked 24th. The women's squad have two individuals gaining points for their current season marks, Maja Wichhart-Donzo and Michaela Wenning in the women's pentathlon. Wichhart-Donzo is ranked 22nd, while Wenning is 29th by USTFCCCA standards. Nearly two-thirds of Colorado's ranking points come from Dani Jones being ranked first in the USTFCCCA in the mile from her previous best of 4:36.05 that she ran at the Colorado Invitational.
The women boast eight individuals contributing to their ranking, including Sage Hurta, Elissa Mann, Tabor Scholl, Makena Morley and Kaitlyn Benner. They have at least two individuals in every distance event from the 800 to the 5,000, including three in the 3,000 in Jones, Morley and Benner.
The top teams in the nation are the University of Arkansas on the women's side and Texas Tech University for the men. The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation has three teams in the two polls in the top-10 in the nation with USC ranked seventh for the women and BYU ranked ninth on the men's. Oregon is also ranked 10th for the women's poll. Other MPSF teams ahead of Colorado included Washington (12th) and Stanford (17th) for the women and Stanford (13th) and Oregon (17th) on the men's side.
