Siewert Provides Spark For Buffs In Win Over Toreros
November 16, 2019 | Men's Basketball
BOULDER — Colorado senior forward Lucas Siewert provided a much-needed spark off the bench for the Buffaloes on Saturday night in their 71-53 win over San Diego.
The senior was coming off a solid performance in the Buffaloes' first contest against Arizona State, when he had nine points and five rebounds. Siewert finished with 11 points and five rebounds in 21 minutes Saturday night. Siewert also went 3-for-5 from 3-point range, including two from behind the arc that helped begin a Colorado 18-0 run in the second half.
Siewert grew up in Brazil before moving to Los Angeles for his four years of high school. He is currently the most experienced player on the roster and has seen his production increase every year. Last season he saw career season bests at 8.9 points a game, 5.0 rebounds a game and 1.6 assists per game as he started the first 26 games for CU.
Since then Siewert has not started a game, but has adapted well to the change.
"You just gotta accept your role." Siewert said. "I think just being on the bench for the first four minutes helps a little bit to see what they're doing. I am just making the time count."
The Buffaloes are a deep team with 10 men in the rotation that can make plays at any time. Siewert is a prime example of the quality depth the Buffaloes have.
"It doesn't matter if you're starting or coming off the bench," head coach Tad Boyle said. "What I want our players to understand is that this team has a lot of weapons and it's going to be different guys every night … Don't try to do things you can't do. Lucas is a good example of that, I thought that he really played within himself tonight."
NEXT UP: The Buffaloes return to the CU Events Center Monday night with a 7 p.m. home contest against UC Irvine.
